I found out recently that I could upgrade my front single piston calipers on my Sportwagen to four piston Boxster calipers without changing the rotors. I also just found out I can get Boxster front calipers for as little as $120 each on eBay (buy it now)! The only issue would be the brackets, but my neighbor can help me mill them myself. That leaves only the pads and banjo bolt to be bought for like $25! For around $350 I can have myself a Big Brake Kit!!!!

Now for the big question: should I?

Someone on VW Vortex already did it...

The prices for those things are all over the place. Some of them are cheap, Some aren't.

It's a good idea though as long as you have everything you need.

The expensive part is the pads themselves...

you will likely need to change your master cylinder as well to make them work correctly

No, people have already done the upgrade. All I would need to do is get a couple of new bolts, flush the lines, put new fluid in, and bleed it. The stock master brake cylinder works fine.

Brakes need to work better than "fine".

Like, they work "BETTER THAN PERFECT"?

Like that? I don't think they need to work better than they were intended to if they are maintained properly (like mine)

Like, they work in a way that the fronts don't lock up before the rears even get applied. Unless this is what is meant by fine?

Like my fronts are 312mm single pistons and the rears are 272 single pistons... the fronts will lock up when the rears are at half pressure...

like, so, you want to make it worse with big calipers? My assumption was you wanted better stopping power but if looks are what you are after then yeah go for it.

No, those are STOCK size rotors on my Sportwagen! What I want is to upgrade to Boxster 4 piston front calipers... yes braking balance will shift forward but it will be worth it!

It's a bit more complicated than bigger calipers equals better brakes
